Great Northern Enterprise is situated in a Grade II listed building in the small village of Thornton. Thornton is the Birth place of the Bronte sisters and you can see reference to this in many parts of the village.
Originally built in 1876 as a the Great Northern Hotel and Coach house it opened in 1878 alongside Thornton Viaduct which was part of the Great Northern Railway which served as a transportation link between Bradford and Keighley before the railway became de-commissioned and is now part of The Great Northern Railway Walking and cycling route.
The building then became the Great Northern Public House first owned and run by Bentley’s Yorkshire Beers and then after changing hands to Whitbread until it recenlty became a freehold.
In 2021 the coachhouse part of the building was converted into the prestigous Wardman Alexander Hairdressers and in 2023 the public house was transformed into offices, retaining the character of the building and in keep with this historic area and place of natural beauty.
